There are times in all out lives when we struggle. Comfort in these times comes from many directions, but the source of “true comfort” comes from God the Father.
I. The source of “true comfort”
a. But true comfort comes from God. He is called the “God of all comfort”
i. 2 Corinthians 1:3 ESV – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort
II. Why Him?
a. Because He is also the “Father of mercies”
b. The term Father brings comfort in itself
III. He presents himself as the source of all kinds of goodness and mercy
a. James 1:17 ESV – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
IV. Comfort is just one of His many mercies, and so He is described as:
a. The “God of all comfort” – 2 Cor 1:3
b. “The God of patience and comfort”
i. Romans 15:5 ESV – May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
V. As His children, we are to take His example and comfort each other
a. 2 Corinthians 13:11 ESV – Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be
b. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 ESV – Therefore encourage one another with these words.
